Can You Describe Your Business In Five Words or Less?

Tagline, blurb, mission statement – call it what you will, but businesses everywhere have it, and you need it – that short yet memorable description of your business that grabs and attracts customers.

Your businesses tagline is tremendously important to your business. Don’t believe me? Ask yourself what company says ‘you deserve a break today’? McDonalds, with its huge advertising budget, recognizes that a tagline reminds customers of their company simply. That you can remember it quickly shows its effectiveness; and what’s good for them should be for you, too.

Another point to remember about taglines is that they advertise the company in a brief sentence. Although customers might remember a 60 second commercial, or a display on a billboard or in the newspaper, attention spans are short – likely they won’t remember all the details. But a short phrase gets in there where longer advertising may not. And the more attention you can get, the better.

(One point to remember – although I’m using this example of McDonald’s as a tagline or mission statement, it isn’t. It’s a slogan for their advertising. However, it works really well as a company description, so I figured it was appropriate for this article. In fact, a small business will likely have to use its company tagline as a slogan as well.)
